Life at the castle

The exhibition is about the almost 500 year long history of the castle. The people, the memories, and the place - Uppsala Castle has always been in a state of change, both physically and in our perception of its history.

For centuries, people have worked at, stayed at, and shaped the castle, which has reshaped the surrounding history. The castle has been renovated, destroyed, and rebuilt many times, but it was the people who lived and worked here who truly gave the building life.

The history of the castle in a new light

This exhibition shows how the castle has affected and been affected by the people who have moved through it – from royalty and politicians to prisoners, servants, and the inhabitants of the city. Through testimonies, archival material, and objects from collections, we invite you to see the castle’s history through new eyes. It is not just a building, but a living monument shaped by the conventions of its time.

Here, you will embark on a journey, where the castle, through the lives and stories of people, becomes more than just a historical site – it becomes part of our shared history and identity, constantly in dialogue with both the past and the present.

We invite you to an exciting journey into the amazing history of Uppsala Castle.
