About Uppsala Castle Museum
Uppsala Slottshistoriska, or Uppsala Castle Museum, is a museum that tells the story of Uppsala and the castle’s history and development. The Castle Museum enables more people to take part in the history of the castle and Uppsala. The museum opens May 17th 2025.
A view with perspective, from the past to the future
Queen Kristina’s farewell speech, Dag Hammarskjöld’s herbarium, and the testimony of Dal-Pelle from prison; Uppsala Castle houses infinite memories, items, and stories – traces of all the people who have ruled, served, laughed, cried, and lived their lives - or only a single night - within the castle walls.
These memories and fates are part of the history of the castle, the history of Uppsala, and the history of Sweden. Just like the castle itself, history is ever-changing. It is revised, reexamined, and rewritten when new perspectives challenge old truths.
By highlighting fates and voices that have never been allowed a place in history books, we shed new light on what we already know – because history belongs to us all. It always has. Together, we carry the stories of Uppsala forward in time.
In the museum’s exhibition, you will learn about the castle's architectural history, but also the people who lived and worked within its walls.
